Superheroes need sugar

Spiderman Ethan and buddy Max

How old are you when you finally realize you really can't do everything? I honestly think Ethan believes, if he is costumed appropriately, that he can take on the world. And of course he can in a figurative sense, but I think he really believes that if he were wearing his knight costume and faced with an angry dragon, he could save the village, or if he was dressed as Superman, he'd have the strength to lift a car. Which is exactly why this year's Halloween float for Ethan's preschool was absolutely perfect. CCNS SUPERHEROES TO THE RESCUE! So last night in preparation for Carlisle's annual Halloween parade, Ethan dawned his Spiderman costume (with long underwear underneath - like all good superheroes!) and set out to save the world. He immediately flew around our house spinning webs and saving, or rather chasing, Emily. As Ethan's adult supervision for the night, I dressed as a robber, all in black with my ski hat, and we headed to the staging area. When we arrived at the float, mini Power Rangers, Batmans, Supergirls, a Scooby Doo, and many other crime fighters circled the lit-up city buildings erected on the trailer. These heroes were so excited to show off their own moves and see each other's. Amazingly it took almost an entire hour of sitting on the float waiting for the parade to start before our heroes got restless. Weren't there people who needed to be saved? At that point, Ethan told me they had been waiting for "SIX HOURS!" (Ethan's super power of exaggeration) and I overheard one of the mom's say, "We need some candy over here." A way to pacify our anxious champions. Aren't all superheroes fueled by sugar? Well, maybe most aren't, but these defenders of the world were, and once all that sugar was pumping through their veins, they were invincible - in my eyes, the superstars of the parade.

Fueling up on candy!
