Pumpkin Patch

Checking out chickens

If it weren't for the increasingly cold temperatures, this would be my favorite favorite time of the year. I love fall on the east coast with all its glory. And despite the wet weather we had this weekend, we braved the elements and went searching for the perfect pumpkins. Ethan and Emily couldn't have been more ecstatic when we drove up to the pumpkin patch and saw a plethora of chickens strutting around. Ethan immediately ran over to them, with Emily not far behind. Now since it was wet and cold, I had to keep them focused on the task at hand - find good pumpkins for carving, and quick! It didn't take Ethan long before he picked out a few he deemed worthy of carving - tall and flat. I grabbed the wagon and loaded up with Emily's "help". This year Ethan was also intrigued by the "fantasy" pumpkins which aren't your average orange, so in addition to our perfect carving ones, we came home with one very round white pumpkin. Emily couldn't resist the "baby" pumpkins so we now have two very small pumpkins sitting on our dining room table in each of the kids' spots - their babies (yes, they always sit in the same seats at the dinner table). As we got ready to leave, we slipped our money into the designated mailbox. It is a true testament to living in a small town when you trust people enough to simply pay for whatever they take. Then we were off. When we got home, Emily helped me arrange the pumpkins on our front porch as they await their carving fate.
