Crib Crashing

Today I actually enjoyed a shower in peace. Most often, Ethan or Emily or both of them will run into the bathroom while I am taking a shower. Sometimes there are tears, sometimes it's just a smile, but according to Ethan, it is always 'urgent'. Not today. I had no visitors, which got me thinking and worrying. As the bathroom continued to steam up, I only imagined the worst. They must be into something good - or rather very bad. So I cut my time short and quickly dried off. I even turned off the fan in order to hear the screams I expected. Not today. There was just silence, and then there were faint giggles. As I stepped out of the bathroom, I couldn't quite figure out where the laughter was coming from - are the kids downstairs? are they in the office? are they hiding somewhere? And then, there it was again - more giggling. Even though it was muffled, the sound was definitely coming from somewhere upstairs. As I turned the corner, I could briefly see into Emily's room and there they were. Both of my kids were in Emily's crib covered with blankets and laughing. Even though Ethan can kind of climb up and fall into Emily's crib, I know Emily can't get in there all by herself, so I was immediately wondering how they even got in the crib. I was about to interrupt and ask, but I stopped myself and simply stood in the doorway watching them. As I eavesdropped on the kids, they continued smiling and laughing, rolling around in that small space, having a great time. And then I even got to get dressed.

That is the best - peeking in on the kids when they're making each other laugh. Such a wonderful moment that brims the heart with happiness.

It's funny too how, when we finally get a stretch of interrupted time to ourselves (when the kids are awake), we spend it worrying that the silence and lack of screaming might mean that they're up to no good. :)
