Grade One Day Two
What a difference a day makes. Yesterday's school day ended in smiles and celebration. Today ended in tears and devastation. On the second day of school, E got in trouble. I am not exactly sure what happened, because E didn't really want to talk about it, but when we arrived home, he reluctantly showed me his binder and pointed to his progress chart. I looked at to see that he had received a warning for not listening while others (his teacher) was speaking. I asked him what happened and he immediately burst into tears. He was crushed. Last year he proudly bragged about rarely getting his "light on." After getting him to calm down, he told me his version of the story, which I'm sure is pretty accurate, but it doesn't really matter. He was so hurt by getting in 'trouble' that he kept saying he hated school and his teacher and that he wasn't going back. This coming out of my nerdy son's mouth. E loves learning, has a million questions for everything, and catches on quickly. School is where he thrives. It hurt me to hear him so upset and angry. Not a nice way to end day number two. E would disagree, but it's a good thing there are so many more to go.
