Crazy Colorado Weather
While in Colorado we had the distinct 'pleasure' of experiencing the state's incredible and unpredictable weather. I went to bed with the threat of a rain storm but that all quickly changed as my dad informed me three funnel clouds had formed just a few miles from my parents' house. The rain was falling in horizontal sheets (is that really falling then??) and the hail was beginning to pound. In just a few moments, the battering on the roof was intensifying. So what to do? My two kids were sound asleep on the top floor of my parents' house and I was growing anxious. We waited for a few more minutes but the storm just seemed to be getting worse, louder and more ferocious. Better safe than sorry, right? So I decided to get the kids and head to the basement. Luckily my parents' have an old bed down there. I know Ethan can pretty much sleep through anything so I got him out of his room first and placed his sleepy body on the bed in the basement. At this point, there was so much rain, it was seeping through the basement walls and the sound was beyond deafening. As soon as I headed back upstairs, I could hear Emily crying, obviously awoken by the storm. I quickly picked her up, comforting her as she was shaking with fright. "Mom, the rain so loud. I scared, Mommy." I just patted her back and swiftly returned to the basement. Ethan was still lying on the bed. Even hiding in the basement, the storm was scary. Luckily, we could all snuggle on the bed while the storm passed. As the rain let up, I asked the kids if they wanted to go back upstairs but neither wanted to move. Ethan was still so groggy and Emily was still so scared. I just put my arms around them, thankful that the storm would soon be gone and we were all there together.
