Yellow Light

Today when I went to pick up Ethan from school, his teacher greeted me at the door with some bad news. Ethan had gotten "his light turned on" to yellow, which basically means she had asked him to stop his behavior twice and he didn't listen. I was pretty shocked as this is the first time this has happened. Ethan constantly brags about NOT getting his light turned on at school. (I know my kids are perfect!) After school today, Ethan looked pretty embarrassed, but I was upset. His teacher preceded to tell me that Ethan wouldn't stop talking to his friends when asked and then had to sit out of playtime for a while. She also told me that she moved his seat so that he wouldn't be sitting next to the same kids. Of course, I thanked her for letting me know and then briefly tried to ask Ethan a little more about the situation. I think I take these things especially hard since I am a teacher myself, and above all, I want my kids to be respectful. Everyday I see kids who are not and would hate for my kid to become that. When we got home, we talked some more, and I think he understands, but he is still so little. I guess one yellow light isn't too bad in the grand scheme of kindergarten, and unfortunately, I am sure there will be more heartbreaking things to come.

Alli,
I totally remember Nate's phone call home from his teacher. I wish it had just been a yellow light...just after Kiana was born he had been caught with his hands around one of the kids in class. Horrifying for sure! He hasn't done it since, and there have been other calls...but I totally get that expectation of kids of teachers:) He's lucky he has you to redirect him when he gets off track.
