Tonight is book club and I have just now finished reading our chosen book, The Help. It isn't so much that I felt compelled to actually finish the book before we met. Anyone who knows us girls knows that our book club is more of a wine club, as it is rare that everyone reads the entire book before me meet. We just love getting together to talk, drink, eat and enjoy each other's company. But this time I did feel compelled to finish the book. It is the first non-school-related novel I have picked up to read since going back to work this fall (as you can see I haven't read along with the rest of the girls!), and it is a joy I didn't even realize I was missing. I had forgotten how wonderful it is to dive into another world and get lost there for a little while. The Help is a beautiful story about love, friendship and hearing your voice. Here are some of my favorite lines:
All I'm saying is, kindness don't have no boundaries.
That's what I love about Aibileen, she can take the most complicated things in life and wrap them up so small and simple, they'll fit right in your pocket.
My eyes sting from the smell of typing ink. My fingers are striped with paper cuts. Who knew paper and ink could be so vicious.
