Flowers

Yesterday E presented me with two pretty purple flowers. The first was given to me after he had fallen off his bike and hobbled home. Despite the crash and having to push his bike home, he managed to save the flower. As he approached our house, he yelled for me between his sobs. Of course, I ran outside to see what had happened. When I asked, E responded, "I feel off my bike, but here's a flower for you," showing me the delicate purple petals. A hug and a tissue healed E's pain. Eventhough I was touched by E's gesture, I was too concerned for him to pay much notice to the flower and simply placed it on the counter. Without any attention, the little flower quickly wilted. By the time, E returned from baseball practice, it had shriveled on the counter. E saw this and immediately journeyed outside in search of another. Without saying anything about the flower, he announced he was going outside to get something and exited out the front door. He returned a few minutes later with a sly smile and another pretty purple flower. This time I put it in a vase without delay.
