On Sunday, we had a great day.Jon has discovered and become obsessed by this tiny authentic Mexican restaurant/store out past the cabin. He wanted to go there for Sunday breakfast again, and since there were no complaints from any of us, we drove over the mountain and ate a great breakfast of eggs, avocado, tacos, chips, chorizo, and salsa. Afterward we had planned to stop by the cabin to pick up and drop off a few things and then head out for a hike. Unfortunately the weather didn't look too promising, so our original plan to hike up to Pole Steeple for the great view was replaced by a hike by Tumbling Run. It was the perfect decision.
If you live around here, now is the ideal time to go up this trail. With all the rain we've had lately, the stream and subsequent waterfalls were rushing down the mountain. While there were some tricky parts due to the overflow of water, both E and Em were thrilled to be out of the house exploring. They kept commenting on how great it was, never once complaining. Any event that can do that is concerned a monumental success. Half way through the hike, E turned to look at me, and said, "We should do this more often." I agreed, and it is wonderful that the weather is now warming up so that we may to do so. Em's excitement was even better as she declared that seeing the waterfalls was "better than Disneyland."
We didn't make it all the way up the trail, but that really didn't matter. It's amazing what a little nature can do for you. The kids still had enough energy and enthusiasm to race Jon and I back to the car. Of course, they won, but we all felt a little like champions.
