Last night the girls and I got together to celebrate our marathon completion. We did it! So we went out, enjoyed a few good beers and relived the whole experience through our stories. I am still feeling the marathon high and I couldn't think of a better way to commemorate our achievement.
Surprisingly, I recovered quickly from the race. On Tuesday, two days after the race, I played a few games of volleyball, and despite the fact that I wasn't sure my legs would always hold me, it helped work out the soreness. By Wednesday, I felt relatively normal, except for my toes. I was genuinely surprised by the fact that four of my bigger toe nails were bruised and throbbing. I had heard of this running condition but was shocked to have this happen to me. My toes didn't hurt once during the race, and I have never had any problems with my shoes up until this point. Luckily this is a relatively easy problem to solve and will eventually go away, but I am not looking forward to losing my toenails in a few months.
According to my calculations, I ran 483.2 miles (give or take) during the training and running of the marathon, which means that if I ran this all at once I could run from here to Pittsburgh and back. My legs have become a means of transportation, and when I think of this, I am so proud of the journey.
