Storm

Ethan holding a large piece of hail

Last Friday a massive storm struck Carlisle. Being from Colorado, I am not easily rattled by hail and lightning since they seem like a daily occurrence during the summers there. But I don't remember ever seeing a storm that created so much havoc in such a short time. I am convinced that a small tornado hit near or around our house as I didn't the same amount of damage that occurred in our little neighborhood anywhere else in town. We weren't home when the storm came through. Jon was on his way home from work with Ethan and took refuge in a beer distributor (yes, I see the irony in that!), while Emily and I were stuck at her day care unable and unwilling to venture outside in the storm. From the foreboding black cloud on the horizon, I knew the storm was going to be huge, but I wasn't expecting to see the amount of destruction it left in its path. There were flowing rivers in the streets; the pavement was covered with inches of leaves; the piles of hail in front of our house took two days to melt; our flowers, plants and garden were ripped to shreds; our siding is now marked with small dents. Thankfully there is no major damage and we are all safe. Mother Nature always has her way of putting us in our place and showing us who's boss.
