Lunch Duty
You aren't really a teacher until you have done your duty - lunch duty. And today was my lucky day. I had forgotten about this wonderful experience in the middle school cafeteria. Anyone and everyone wanting to be a teacher should know that this is part of your responsibilities. It should be a requirement of pre-service teaching. You should have to walk around the echoing cafeteria in order to prove you can handle it. Now luckily the kids at my school really aren't that badly behaved. They are just so disgusting. They are middle schoolers. I can't believe the food they eat and the messes they make. I was totally grossed out. Greasy fries, shiny pizza, spilled chocolate milk, perfectly scooped mashed potatoes swimming in gravy, crumbs flying and I think I saw something that may have been chicken nuggets (I have no idea!). No need to worry about missing my lunch since I had to do my duty; I didn't even have the slightest inkling to want to eat after witnessing the spectacle. And I get to do it all again next week. Just one of the perks of being a teacher again.
