Room 108
Like many schools around here, the high school is fairly segregated between lower and upperclassmen. One whole side of the school is designated for the 9th and 10th graders while the other is for 11th and 12th-grade classes. Of course, all the students have to mix in the halls but most upperclassmen wouldn't be caught dead in the freshmen wing. Unfortunately, this week my juniors were working on a project and the one and only open computer lab was on the complete opposite side of the building in room 108, of course in the freshmen wing. Now you wouldn't think that there would be that much of a difference between freshmen and juniors - they are only two years apart in age - but walking down that hall was like walking into a different world. Seriously. I used to teach 8th grade so I feel like I shouldn't have been so surprised, but maybe I am now just used to the older kids. The kids looked younger, acted sillier, walked slower, talked louder, and hovered longer. As my juniors struggled through the freshmen madness, their faces said it all. But they, of course, were freshmen once two - just two short years ago.
