Picking the Roses

Isn't the old saying, "You can pick your nose and your friends, but you can't pick your family"?

Well, I was lucky enough to pick the Roses. I know a lot of people complain about their in-laws, but after spending a week with our extended family in California for Grandma Rose's funeral, I am again so thankful to be part of such a great family. Despite the sadness of Grandma Rose's passing, everyone was truly happy to see each other. We really didn't have to go anywhere or do anything special. It was enough to just have one another there. I think that is the true test of family - despite everything that happens in the world, finding pleasure in simply being together. Even though I am not a member of the family by birth, I know why Grandma Rose was so proud of being a Rose.
