Our house is crumbling around us. Pieces of metal dive off the roof. Old shingles fly to their fate below. Loud banging starts early in the morning and persists all day. And I couldn't be happier. Well, I do have to admit that the noise is driving me a little crazy, but I am so excited to see our "new" house. It is just that the process seems to be moving so slowly. They have been here a week and the roof isn't even done. I am not saying they aren't working hard - far from it. I would never want to be the one up there on the hot tin roof!
This week as the exterior of our house was coming down, both my children came down with a virus that turned into croup. E ended up in the ER Monday night because he was having trouble breathing. He was fine most of the day and simply sounded like he had a frog in his throat. He played soccer and went swimming but seemed tired. He woke up around 1 AM in tears, trying to breathe. I couldn't get his breathing to regulate so Jon thought it'd be best to take him to the hospital. After some oxygen, a steroid and a popsicle, the doctor sent him home with an inhaler. The next morning he sounded better and seemed fine, thankfully! Of course, it was a bit scary, but we are just so happy he is feeling better. His voice is still raspy but he is back to his normal self, full of energy and curiosity.
Onto child #2: Last night, Em started sounding like E and I was immediately worried that we were heading back to the ER. We gave her a couple puffs from E's inhaler and that seemed to do the trick. She slept in today but has been coughing a bit. She too sounds like a frog has hopped down her throat. After seeing the doctor today, he prescribed some medicine for Em to prevent her airways from further inflammation. She was exhausted this evening and in bed around 7 pm.
I hope the weekend will bring some much needed rest and quiet around our house. On Monday the house destruction resumes but hopefully the kids will be feeling just like new again.
